“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” ― Rumi

Books for Conscious Parenting

"There should be a tag that you have to tear off your child after they are born before you can hold them. This tag should read: Caution: This is not a vulnerable soul that needs to be controlled and shaped. Please learn from the wisdom and gifts this child brings you. Cannot be returned or exchanged. May the force be with you."-- Dana Massat

I smile every time I read Dana Massat's quote.

Humans evolve.  It is what we do.   Our children show up to teach push and us us forward as a society.  This is not always convenient or comfortable.  The more we adults resist shift and growth, the bumpier the journey.  If we let them, our children can lead us down an enlightened path.  Our children are speaking to us  through the wasy they react to this 24/7 world, technology, foods, education, etc. Their messages are not always eloquent. The messages can present themselves through illness, addiction, hyperactivity, apathy, anger, etc.

The more present we are with our children the quicker we are to understand the messages and the lessons they are offering us.

Some times I only understood my children's messages in hindsight. As I honed my listening skills, truly paying attention, these messages reshaped my family for the better. I grew in strength at saying, "No" to many things in society. We created a peaceful environment in our house full a laughter and support.

Maria Montessori greatly influenced my family. It is hard to describe the simple beauty of a Montessori classroom or home. As Maria always said, "Follow the child."
